Jackass: The Movie

Comedy/ 1 hr. 37 min./ Rated R/ 2002

Hey, we're in a shopping cart, we can't get hurt!
I'd like to think otherwise, honestly.

Jackass:  The Movie
****

Highs:  Insanely funny, one of the greatest ending sequences of all time
Lows:  Aimed only at a specific audience

Some would say a movie without a plot is not a movie at all.  Snooty sophisticates immediately turn up their noses to titles such as Jackass, choosing to judge them before giving them a chance.  In this case, I can't really blame them, though.  Jackass:  The Movie probably isn't for everyone.  I can safely say that fans of the show and people with an extreme appreciation for slapstick will be the ones who get the most enjoyment out of this little shindig.

Seeing as the show made me laugh on more than a dozen occassions, giving Jackass a shot was only natural for me.  Like I said, I can't really summarize the plot, since there really isn't one.  The premise is just about as straightforward as it gets:  Steve-o, Johnny Knoxville, Bam Margera and the gang go around and do the most insane stunts they can think of; the ha-ha's be a-comin'.

Unlike the show, the stunts are on a much grander scale.  The higher budget allowed the team to travel all over the world to such exotic locales as Australia and Tokyo, and the R rating removes the censorship so common on the show.  So, while calling this a 90 minute version of the TV show is accurate in some respects, you'd never see half of this stuff on TV.  Rarely is there a lull between the laughter.  In fact, you'll come to appreciate the few lame scenes so you can collect yourself for the next batch of greatness.

Hmm, that's all I really have to say.  If you like the show, or just appreciate stupid-but-good comedy, then your money will be well spent on the movie.
Otherwise, go read shakespeare or something.
